The purpose of maintenance is keeping beautiful, healthy and attractive lawn growing steady. Maintenance on a lawn can determine a good from a bad lawn. Mower height, sharpness, cleanliness, and mowing schedule can make the difference between a lush green lawn and a brown weed infested one. The following are mowing tips that will help keep your lawn looking it best:A good lawn requires attention to proper mowing, feeding, watering and other management practices such as weeding, disease prevention and pest control.
Mowing
Keeping mower blades sharp will leave the grass blade with a straight tip. Dull blades will result in uneven cuts and damaged grass blades.
Never mow more than 1/3 of the total grass height. Be careful not to allow your lawn to get too tall between mowings!
Make sure your mower is clean of weeds and other contaminants prior to cutting your lawn. Weeds can be transferred from one lawn to another if they are cut with the same lawn mower.
Change the direction of mowing from time to time to ensure even cut.
Watering New Lawn
Make sure water is spread evenly through the lawn or else dry patches will result.
Keep the sod soil moist at all times during the first week. Scheduled watering 3 times a day will help keep the grass moist. (NOTE: If sodded during the dry part of summer, keep the grass damp for the first 3 days)
In the second week, Scheduled watering should be 2 times a day still keeping the lawn moist.
Watering Mature Lawn
Water only as needed and not on a set schedule.
Avoid watering in the evening or late nights.
Fertilizing
Fertilize your lawn every 6-8 weeks.
Apply fertilizer throughout the lawn evenly.
Weed Control
The most effective weed control method starts with proper preparation & maintenance for your new lawn. When properly maintained with mowing schedules, good water management and proper fertilization you will have a healthy beautiful looking.
Lawn is very similar to us human beings. In order to survive it needs air, food and water to survive.
